Kim Miresse, MS, LPC

**VIRTUAL ONLY**

Kim is licensed as a Professional Counselor in the state of Wisconsin and earned her master’s in counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The foundation of Kim’s training and practice is in Interpersonal Process Psychotherapy, which is a great framework for individuals and couples who are having difficulties in their relationship(s) and/or have a history of relational challenges or wounds. Kim uses the therapeutic relationship as a tool for healing from past relational traumas and wounds as well as a model for healthy interpersonal relationships.

Kim has lived in several countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, and Ghana, and, as a result, knows what it’s like to live in a country where her cultural, racial, ethnic, and religious identity is different than that of the majority culture. Kim appreciates the ways in which one’s culture impacts who they are and the decisions they make. This makes Kim a great fit for international students and expats. Kim is also sensitive to the ways in which clients’ race, ethnicity, religion, SES, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability status, etc impact their sense of self and their experience in the world.

Kim recognizes that every person is unique, so she tailors her approach to meet the individual needs of each client/couple. Kim draws on Psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Humanistic therapy, Emotion-focused therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Somatic experiencing. Kim works with adult couples and individuals struggling with relationship concerns, identity challenges, life transitions, depression, anxiety, relational trauma, and ADHD, and those impacted by adoption and foster care, among other concerns.

“Radical Empathy means striving to always hold others in unconditional positive regard. It means assuming that most of us are essentially good at our core, that we are all worthy of love and forgiveness.”

I offer an authentic, empathetic, and holistic therapeutic approach that is person-centered and strengths-based. I incorporate elements from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems, and attachment-based theories to address your specific needs.

I have experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, adults, and families with a special interest in perinatal mental health, life transitions, relationship concerns, and family dynamics.
